When Doug Bratland and Ann Mosey sat down for a beer at The Cow a couple of years back, the conversation circled around how to create an arts-based event calendar for local artists. They had heard time and time again that there was a void of immediate access to when, who, what, and where things were going on in Northfield.
Fast forward a bit: Amy Smith joins the group, and the three of them develop a comprehensive website for artists, venues, and fans in which everyone and everything is connected.
ArtsTown.us offers not only a real-time calendar of local events for dance, film, literary arts, music, theater, and visual arts, the site also features membership-based portfolios of local artists and arts-related businesses.
The three of them also recognized that it’s difficult for artists to find and maintain a “vehicle” in which they can not only showcase their work, but also let people know where they’re performing or exhibiting. “We felt that creating an online portfolio had to be simple and easy, so that artists can spend more time doing what they love best...making their art.”, said Amy Smith.
