"Johnny Cash fronts the Rolling Stones, circa 1972"
MATT ARTHUR is a fiercely contrarian Southern Minnesota blind man with a voice that calls to mind Johnny Cash, John Darnielle, and Nick Cave.
THE BAND is led by identically-bearded twins, and the group’s rootsy sound is an amalgamation of rustic folk, old-time blues, early country-western, southern rock, indie dirges, and bombastic anthems.
THE SONGS would shuffle sweetly through a playlist packed with early-70s Stones, Crazy Horse-era Neil Young, and more recent offerings from Deer Tick and the Drive By Truckers.
THE NEW ALBUM, "Heavy On My Mind," is awash in vintage Hammond organ, and the lean core of the band is fleshed out with pedal steel, barrelhouse piano, cello, violin, harmonium, and haunting harmony vocals.
