Set sail with this Northfield Arts Guild Theater production that boasts one of the most famous patter songs in musical theatre history – so famous, that Lin Manuel Miranda claims it as inspiration for his work on the musical Hamilton.
Performances are July 21-23, 28-30, Aug. 4-6, F/Sa 7:30pm, Sun 2pm at Arcadia Charter School, 1719 Cannon Rd, Northfield.
Directed by Bob Gregory-Bjorklund with musical direction by Daniel Kallman and choreography by Shari Setchell. Gilbert and Sullivan’s Comic Operetta.
On the coast of Cornwall, a band of tenderhearted pirates celebrates the coming of age of Frederic, who was mistakenly apprenticed to the pirates until his 21st birthday. Now, Frederic has vowed to devote his life to the extermination of piracy – until a ludicrous leap year snag threatens to keep him apprenticed to the pirates for life. Throw in a bevy of beauties, a brash Pirate King, the delightfully stuffy Major-General Stanley and you’ve got an endearing evening of fun for the entire family.
An opening night reception is scheduled for July 21 and a post-show discussion will occur following the July 23 matinee. Tickets available at northfieldartsguild.org, 507/645-8877 or at the downtown Center for the Arts.
